Reviving Traditional Health Care Practices

A One- day workshop on using plants in health care - organised on request from social groups and NGOs

In a bid to encourage the use of green home remedies, the Neem Foundation conducts workshops on growing and using plants and herbs as medicine. Grow Your Medicine is a workshop where actual plants are on display and use for ailments ranging from common cold to malaria.

Daylong workshops organised by the Foundation focus on simple remedies for complex problems. Participants are given detailed worksheets on the ways to use plants like Neem – Azadirachta indica, Turmeric – Curcuma longa, Tulsi – Ocimum sanctum, Aloe Vera – Aloe barbadensis, Brahmi Centella asiatica, Long Pepper – Piper longum, Black Pepper – Piper nigrum, Jamun – Eugenia jambolana, Curry Leaf – Murraya koenigii, Ajwain – Trachyspermum ammi, Bone- Setter- Tissues quadrangularis etc.

“People today are keen to find natural solutions rather than chemical or synthetic ones, but don’t quite know how to go about it. This is a knowledge gap that we are trying to fill ” says Ms. Pramila Thakkar, Managing Trustee of the Neem Foundation.

“In light of the malaria and chikangunya scares, through these interactions we try to empower people to protect themselves and their families. Malaria is a huge problem in the tropical regions of Asia & Africa, but traditional herbal remedies are overlooked or not properly promoted.

It is important to note that; certain herbs and plants, when grown in the neighbourhood, will keep mosquitoes at bay. It is such knowledge about various ailments and problems that we are trying to disseminate to the public.” she adds.
